Bring a cash donation to get in the door, some extra spending money for our EarthLinks Workshop product booth, and of course your appetite for delicious pancakes!

All proceeds go to support EarthLinks’ mission to Sustain People + the Planet.

Construction starts today, October 12, 2011, to turn Larimer Street into a 2-way street from Downing to Broadway! Both directions of traffic should be open by the weekend, and there will be lovely bike lanes on both sides.

Hooray for bikes, pedestrians, local business, and ease of access to EarthLinks!

From June 12-17, my friend, Linda Cortes, and I will be bicycling 412 miles through some of Colorado’s most scenic and challenging countryside. 6 days, 6 unique mountain passes, and over 22,000 feet of vertical gain. Whew!! Hopefully, no lightening or broken parts! Explore our route on the RTR web site at www.ridetherockies.com

Our team name is the Pedal Pushers, and we’re psyched! We’ve already put in a month of training, and we will have pushed our pedals over 1,400 miles even before we see the starting line in Crested Butte!

]]> http://earthlinks-colorado.org/ride-the-rockies-for-earthlinks/feed 0 Updated (again!): Cold Frame Gardening http://earthlinks-colorado.org/cold-frame-gardening http://earthlinks-colorado.org/cold-frame-gardening#comments Tue, 11 Jan 2011 19:28:54 +0000 earthl6 http://earthlinks-colorado.org/?p=1229 The days have gotten shorter and colder, and the Peace Garden is closed for the winter, but that doesn’t mean we can’t keep producing fresh, organic vegetables here at EarthLinks! For the first time, we’ve decided to try raising veggies over the winter with cold frames. (A cold frame acts like a sort of mini greenhouse, keeping the plants warm and happy even when it snows!)

A group from the Colorado Vincentian Volunteers came by the garden last week to help dig some holes, turn the soil, and set up our cold frame beds. We’re trying two different approaches: two of the beds use frames built by our volunteer/carpenter extraordinaire, Craig, with a window pane on hinges over the top; the third bed is made of straw bales arranged with window panes resting over the bed. Simple and (we hope) effective!

Here are some photos of EarthLinks participants in the workshop planting seeds that will be brought out to the cold frames soon — we decided on spinach, arugula, kale, and lettuce to start. Check back often for more photos of the frames and our winter harvest!

UPDATE: We’ve added more photos of our participants fixing up the soil and replanting the young veggies! Check them out!
