A hearty group from the Empowerment GED program went to Eldorado Canyon State Park on a beautiful summer day in late July.  One participant had recently moved from Phoenix, having just finished an inpatient recovery program; she had never been to the mountains before this trip.  The theme of the day’s hike was “Transitions — in our world and in our lives.”  On our envigorating trail hike, we were amazed at the geological changes that must have happened to form the sheer canyon walls.  We paused to delight in many delicate wild flowers, a small snake, and trees that seemed to grow right out of the rocks!  After lunch we cooled our feet in the relaxing stream, and then played a round of Frisbee.  Several participants commented that it was great to meet new friends who were “into healthy things” and could help each other stay sober and meet new goals.  The return van trip was filled with infectious laughter and occasional soft sighs.  Our hope is that the trip continues to foster healthy relationships, a renewed energy for completing personal goals, and an on-going love for our Creator and this amazing earth.

We said farewell to our good friend Mary Ann Figlino who is transitioning into retirement and leaving Empowerment!  We will miss you Mary Ann.
