We are so lucky to have such amazingly talented artists in our community. One participant recently created four beautiful signs for our office and garden! Here’s a peak at the works in progress. Come by later this week to see the new signs! You won’t be disappointed!

]]> http://earthlinks-colorado.org/new-signs-for-earthlinks/feed 0 Mustard Greens and a Little Rain http://earthlinks-colorado.org/mustard-greens-and-little-rain http://earthlinks-colorado.org/mustard-greens-and-little-rain#comments Tue, 12 Jul 2011 20:29:08 +0000 earthl6 http://earthlinks-colorado.org/?p=1515 Exactly a month ago, Ben and I planted these tiny mustard greens in the hopes that they would survive the ninety degree weather long enough to produce some leaves to eat.  They were long and stringy, and seemed so fragile.  Before planting the greens, we first turned compost into the soil and gave the dry, tired bed some water.  You can see that we created a little shade for the greens to help them get established, too.

Today, Elizabeth and I went out to harvest some mustard, and here is what we found: a booming patch of mustard!  Between the rain we’ve gotten the past couple of days and the care that the community has taken to keep it covered, the greens are doing quite well.  We ate it in our quesadillas this morning for breakfast and sent some home with participants after workshop.  We will continue to send it out with other participants throughout the week.  The mustard is spicing things up around here!

This 6-week class provides critical skills, a professional portfolio, and an internship to students wishing to pursue a career in the florist industry. The Floral Design Course is a collaboration between EarthLinks and the Empowerment Program.
